Elephants Deli

Yes, I know I haven't posted in a very long time.
This is Elephants Deli on NW 23rd, just north of
Burnside Blvd.
A great place to meet a friend for lunch
or do a little gift shopping.
I know I will be back here for some Christmas shopping for sure.

Smith and Bybee Natural Wetlands

A wonderful place in Portland to explore,
enjoy some time of quiet,
and get some exercise too.
Spending time with someone special
definitely delights me here.
For more information go to the above link.

Saucebox

Saucebox
214 S.W. Broadway
Portland, Oregon
Website: saucebox.com
Closed Sundays and Mondays

Saucebox had been on my list for quite a long time
and finally during the month of March with the Portland Dining discount
off I went.  It didn't disappoint.
The service was the highlight, very well taken care of.
The food was delicious.

Little Bird Bistro

Dinner at Little Bird was the best treat I have had
in a long time.  The service, atmosphere, and food
were truly amazing.
The appetizer was pork belly bilini's.
Cod was hiding under those beans.
 Olive oil cake with rhubarb.
Normally I don't like rhubarb, but this was delicious too.
Since it was my birthday there were two tiny macarons
at the end of the meal.
This is a definite repeat.

March is Portland Dining Month,
so many restaurants including Little Bird have
a special menu for $29 each person.
Definitely makes it worth trying some restaurants you
haven't visited yet.

Portland Children's Museum

This museum had been on my list for a long time.
Finally made it there this week, to the delight of one little boy.
There were colors and light to delight.
A crocodile to brush the teeth or maybe to rest in his mouth.
So much more to discover including a train,
a room to wear a hard hat and dig, class with
building and clay, a water room to get the hands wet.
For little ones I recommend going on a week day,
as weekends can get very busy.
They are open from 9AM-5PM daily.
Location: 4015 S.W. Canyon Rd., Portland, Oregon

La Calaca Comelona

 La Calaca Comelona
2304 S.E. Belmont, Portland, OR
It is not your normal Mexican restaurant with a plate
full of runny refried beans and rice.
The portions are more than adequate.
A very different menu.
Not overly spicy, but quite tasty.
I had read several times online and in my local newspaper
about this restaurant and finally stopped in for a meal.
I wasn't disappointed.

Mirakutei

The Oregonian newspaper today said that starting tomorrow
Portland would be celebrating Dumpling week.
They gave a list of the top 10 recommendations,
so off I went tonight to beat the crowd and try their #10 choice.
It was gyoza's at Mirakutei, 536 E. Burnside Street, Portland, Oregon
Phone:  503-467-7501
Website: mirakuteipdx.com
Everything was delicious including the gyosa (dumplings).
Oh and the matcha on the house was good too.
A new restaurant for me.
Glad I went early as their was a bit of a wait list by the time I left.

Rimsky-KorsaKoffee House

Their iconic dessert of Raspberry Fool is delicious.
Rimsky-KorsaKoffee House has been in this house in southeast
Portland for as long as I can remember.
If you don't know where it is, you might miss it.
It is a "kitschy" place full of whimsy.
For the women, make sure you stop by the bathroom.
What fun!
It was opened by Goody Cable, who also owns the B&B
Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport, Oregon.
Definitely a coffee house, though they do serve a cup of tea too.
The desserts and sometimes live music is the highlight.
A great place to go after the show.

Rimsky-KorsaKoffee House
707 S.E. 12th Ave., Portland, OR.
Open from 7PM - 12 midnight.

Jake's Famous Crawfish

Sometimes a month flies by and I haven't shared with you here.
A special meal for my husband and I is always Jake's Famous Crawfish.
We especially love coming here for dependable, delicious seafood.
On the other hand I can say there berry cobbler is worth a visit too.
It is a great place to take out of town visitors and gives them a touch
of downtown Portland and an old established seafood restaurant.

Jake's Famous Crawfish
401 S.W. 12th Avenue
reservations probably are a good idea, but we have
sometimes gotten in without them.

Petite Provence

Yummy chai and coffee.
On a nice day seating outside is delightful.
Definitely have a croissant, delicious!

Petite Provence is located in several places around the Portland area.
My husband swears there breakfast is the best.
Sometimes there is a wait to get in, but quite worth it.
Plus they have wonderful breads and pastries to take away.
Check out their website for locations and enjoy!

Bamboo Sushi

Bamboo Sushi has been located at 310 S.E. 28th for quite a long time.
More recently they have added locations at 836 N.W. 23rd and
1409 N.E. Alberta St.
Personally I don't visit here often enough.
The fish is the freshest fish around and prepared so beautifully.
The photos are from the Alberta Street location, which has sidewalk seating
during the warm months.
I can highly recommend Bamboo Sushi, as the perfect place to visit for
sushi and sashimi.

Island Cafe

The Island Cafe is where my husband and I go for a little escape,
when we want to feel like we are on holiday and floating
on the river.
Yes, it is right on the Columbia River at Hayden Island.
Going north on I-5 take the Jantzen Beach exit and head right
on the island road.  Watch for the sign along on your right side.
There is parking above and you walk down the ramp and board
walk to the restaurant.  Lunch time, I can recommend, as less busy
than on a summer evening.
Everything I have had here is good, but the fish and chips is my favorite.
Perfect for a nice day get away.  No reservations taken.

Biwa

Melt in your mouth sashimi.
Biwa's is quite casual, sit at the bar, small tables, or outdoors
on a fine day.
They serve small bites, Japanese style, much like tapas.
Each small plate was delicious, but the price can add up when ordering this way.
I enjoyed the food alot, but with so many Japanese style restaurants
in town I probably would go elsewhere.
What I would say, visit it for yourself and you may like it alot.

Biwa
215 S.E. 9th Ave., Portland, Oregon

Tamale Boy

Tamale Boy has the best summertime patio to savor
the food and an evening visit.
Beside delicious tamales, they serve specials such as the
one of above or tacos below.
Guacamole can be ordered and made at the table just for you.
Having visited here several times, I can highly recommend Tamale Boy.

Tamale Boy
1764 N.E. Dekum St., Portland, OR.
Visit their website to find locations for their food trucks:  www.tamaleboy.com
Head's up, they are closed on Mondays.
