Rimsky-KorsaKoffee House

Their iconic dessert of Raspberry Fool is delicious.
Rimsky-KorsaKoffee House has been in this house in southeast
Portland for as long as I can remember.
If you don't know where it is, you might miss it.
It is a "kitschy" place full of whimsy.
For the women, make sure you stop by the bathroom.
What fun!
It was opened by Goody Cable, who also owns the B&B
Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport, Oregon.
Definitely a coffee house, though they do serve a cup of tea too.
The desserts and sometimes live music is the highlight.
A great place to go after the show.

707 S.E. 12th Ave., Portland, OR.
Open from 7PM - 12 midnight.

Jake's Famous Crawfish

Sometimes a month flies by and I haven't shared with you here.
A special meal for my husband and I is always Jake's Famous Crawfish.
We especially love coming here for dependable, delicious seafood.
On the other hand I can say there berry cobbler is worth a visit too.
It is a great place to take out of town visitors and gives them a touch
of downtown Portland and an old established seafood restaurant.

Jake's Famous Crawfish
401 S.W. 12th Avenue
reservations probably are a good idea, but we have
sometimes gotten in without them.

Lan Su Chinese Gardens

Lan Su Chinese Gardens is one of my all time favorite
gardens in Portland to visit, stroll, take photos, and
have a cup of tea.
I can highly recommend having a membership if you love
these gardens and like a place to stop for some quiet moments.
You can find them at:  239 N.W. Everett St., Portland, OR
Regular admission is $9.50 for adults
They are open from 10AM-6PM, but have special events
from time to time in the evenings.  Music in the gardens is the best.

Note:  They will be closed November 23rd to mid-January for
rehabilitation of the lake.

Petite Provence

Yummy chai and coffee.
On a nice day seating outside is delightful.
Definitely have a croissant, delicious!

Petite Provence is located in several places around the Portland area.
My husband swears there breakfast is the best.
Sometimes there is a wait to get in, but quite worth it.
Plus they have wonderful breads and pastries to take away.
Check out their website for locations and enjoy!

Bamboo Sushi

Bamboo Sushi has been located at 310 S.E. 28th for quite a long time.
More recently they have added locations at 836 N.W. 23rd and
1409 N.E. Alberta St.
Personally I don't visit here often enough.
The fish is the freshest fish around and prepared so beautifully.
The photos are from the Alberta Street location, which has sidewalk seating
during the warm months.
I can highly recommend Bamboo Sushi, as the perfect place to visit for
sushi and sashimi.

Oregon State Fair

The Oregon State Fair in a fun event not to be missed.
Beside food, rides, and music, there are all the competitions
you expect at a fair.
The last day is Sept. 7th, so head to Salem and enjoy.
Market Street exit off I-5 works for me, then go west until
you see signs for the fair.

Cours d'Elegance

The Cour d'Elegance is over for this year, but if you love cars, especially of
the vintage variety, you will thoroughly enjoy this show in 2016.
My husband took me along on this adventure and I even enjoyed seeing these beauties.
It would also be a great adventure to include a few wineries in the area too.
Make a weekend of being out and about not too far from Portland, OR.
It is held each year on the Pacific University campus in Forest Grove.

Island Cafe

The Island Cafe is where my husband and I go for a little escape,
when we want to feel like we are on holiday and floating
on the river.
Yes, it is right on the Columbia River at Hayden Island.
Going north on I-5 take the Jantzen Beach exit and head right
on the island road.  Watch for the sign along on your right side.
There is parking above and you walk down the ramp and board
walk to the restaurant.  Lunch time, I can recommend, as less busy
than on a summer evening.
Everything I have had here is good, but the fish and chips is my favorite.
Perfect for a nice day get away.  No reservations taken.

Biwa

Melt in your mouth sashimi.
Biwa's is quite casual, sit at the bar, small tables, or outdoors
on a fine day.
They serve small bites, Japanese style, much like tapas.
Each small plate was delicious, but the price can add up when ordering this way.
I enjoyed the food alot, but with so many Japanese style restaurants
in town I probably would go elsewhere.
What I would say, visit it for yourself and you may like it alot.

215 S.E. 9th Ave., Portland, Oregon

Tamale Boy

Tamale Boy has the best summertime patio to savor
the food and an evening visit.
Beside delicious tamales, they serve specials such as the
one of above or tacos below.
Guacamole can be ordered and made at the table just for you.
Having visited here several times, I can highly recommend Tamale Boy.

Head's up, they are closed on Mondays.

Portland Parks - Summer Nights

Dancing the night away.
Portland, Oregon's Park Bureau always amazes and delights me
with their summer offerings.
Beside wonderful live concerts at Washington Park, by the Rose Gardens,
they have free symphony's, movies, and concerts around town
in many of the parks.
It's all free, pick and choose what your heart desires.
Last night I packed a picnic and we enjoyed this concert in the park for free.
Yes, free is a very good price.
It was a lovely evening out with the evening breezes.
There are only three more nights at Washington Park,
but check the website above for more events throughout August.

Blankeye Art Gallery

Blankeye Art Gallery recently had an opening for two artists.
Since they were exhibiting sculptures and photographs,
two of my favorite art forms, I really wanted to see this show.
Javier Martinez didn't disappoint.  His sculptures were a delight of whimsy.
Andrew Binkley found many ways in his photos to display the
delights of a tube at the beach.
Threshold,  #1 was "The point at which something begins."
The show was a delightful beginning for Blankeye Art Gallery in southeast Portland.
It will be live and available for viewing for the next 3 months.

Kruger's Farm

Wow!  Kruger's Farm definitely got the Farm to Table
concept right!  Everything was delicious and just added
to a perfect summer evening on the farm under a huge oak tree.
We were greeted by Mr. Kruger himself and he was a delight.
The appetizers were amazing from ricotta stuffed squash blossoms,
lovely cheeses and fruit, plus their own pickled veggies.
Sitting here with people we would soon get to know from
all over the world was pure JOY.
 The evening breezes were amazing.
Salad, fresh green beans, corn picked that morning,
squash, and grilled salmon all delighted our palate.
There was a beautiful veggie tart for several vegetarians.

Dessert was blueberries picked nearby on the farm
served with ice cream and an almond tart.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was an
evening highlight of the summer for me.
Now if you just want to stop by the farm market for fresh produce
or to pick a beautiful bouquet of flowers that works too.
I am always out there when it comes to Gravenstein apple season
because I can depend on them to have my favorite apple.

Ohana Hawaiian Cafe

A year ago I was on the island of Kauai enjoying the delights
of shaved ice, poke, spam musubi, and huli chicken;
so when I found out there was a restaurant right here in Portland
with all these Hawaiian delights and more, I was thrilled.
Just to know I could get shaved iced anytime of the year
made me smile.
To be able to have all the food delights of Hawaii was wonderful.
If you are like me and thrilled to have Hawaiian food right here in
the city of Portland, you will soon be visiting Ohana Hawaiian Cafe.

Pearl Bakery

When I worked in the Pearl District I often found myself
heading to the Pearl Bakery for lunch.
Beside delicious pastries and bread
there are really nice sandwiches, which change seasonally.
Definitely worth the stop anytime and maybe you will
even find a French macaron too.
Yes, occasionally I now plan my trips to this part of town
just to have a sandwich and pastry.

Yakuza

Yakuza's presentation for beautiful Japanese food will indeed delight.

Edible flowers and greens are incorporated so well into each dish.
The quality of the fish is melt in your mouth delicious.
In the summer months there is a secret garden behind the restaurant
that is the perfect place to sip and partake of their delicacies.
Yakuza is clustered with so many amazing restaurants, take the time
to enjoy each one at N.E. 30th and Killingsworth Blvd.
